Richard Deutschmann Joins Tangent Energy Solutions as Vice President of Business Development

Richard Deutschmann has been named Vice President of Business Development for Tangent Energy Solutions, Inc.

Deutschmann will oversee company growth into the southeastern U.S. for Tangent, which lowers commercial and industrial (C&I) energy prices by combining on-site clean generation assets with efficiency technologies to save customers 10 percent to 20 percent in energy costs.

“Richard is a great addition to the Tangent Energy team,” said Tangent’s Chief Operating Officer Dave Turner. “His extensive background in building design, commercial and institutional solar energy, public policy and energy management; as well as his experience in growing and scaling a new millennium business, will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our operations.”

Prior to joining Tangent, Deutschmann was Vice President of Policy & Market Development at groSolar in their Jessup, Maryland location, where he developed and managed their channel partner program as part of the large commercial projects team.  He also oversaw renewable energy policy and legislative affairs on a state level throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.

“Tangent Energy is bringing a cutting edge combination of energy solutions to their clients, including on-site solar generation and peak-load management,” said Deutschmann. “After meeting with the management team and seeing the depth of experience, as well as their extensive project portfolio, I am excited to be coming aboard to join the Tangent family.”

This year, Tangent has completed solar projects at four sites in Pennsylvania, with four more under construction – totaling 3.1 megawatts (MW) of solar energy.  Projects at industrial company sites in New Jersey are also underway.

Deutschmann co-founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of Chesapeake Solar LLC, a regional solar integration company serving the Maryland/DC/Virginia/Delaware area.  He was responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company, leadership of the senior management team, P&L, and external  public affairs.

He also led Chesapeake’s successful launch into the nascent commercial and institutional markets.  Chesapeake experienced steep growth in the 2005-2008 timeframe, and was recognized in Inc. 500’s Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.  Deutschmann led the effort of the company’s acquisition in 2008.

Previously, Deutschmann was Senior Project Engineer with Parsons Infrastructure and Technology Group at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.  He also worked in private MEP consulting; where he designed and managed numerous construction and renovation projects for diverse applications such as certified clean rooms, laboratories, hospitals, energy management systems, semiconductor fabs and telecommunications.

He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland and DC.

About Tangent Energy Solutions

Tangent Energy Solutions (www.tangentenergy.com) reverses the traditional utility driven approach to developing the smart grid by partnering with commercial and industrial customers to optimize the “grid behind the meter.” By providing clean energy assets and technologies at no capital cost, Tangent saves C&I energy customers 10 percent to 20 percent while increasing the amount of renewable content in their supply. Tangent actively manages on-site assets to decrease a customer’s reliance on grid sourced energy, especially during peak demand periods.  As a result, both the end-customer and the utilities benefit. Tangent is a venture-backed company founded in 2009 by a management team that has been providing commercially successful energy innovations to mainstream C&I customers for 30 years.
