Supply and Demand

Supply and Demand – a balanced approach

Tangent blends on-site energy generation with efficiency measures

Tangent’s heritage is deeply rooted in the demand response industry. Several members of the management team built Enerwise – which, before being sold to Comverge, was the largest Demand Response (DR) company in PJM Interconnection, the nation’s largest Regional Transmission Organization (RTO).

Demand response programs were conceived as an alternative to more extraordinary and expensive measures for relieving system-wide stress during high demand periods.  In exchange for financial compensation, customers agreed to reduce energy usage by predetermined levels when notified.   Demand response has been a great success in the energy industry. However, it does have its limitations.

C&I energy customers can’t cut their way to success

Past a certain point, reductions to lighting, HVAC and industrial processes disrupt normal operations by reducing building comfort, lowering productivity and even threatening safety.  Tangent’s balanced approach avoids these disadvantages by offsetting partial reductions in grid-sourced energy with less expensive energy from a clean on-site generation resource.

Tangent provides these clean generation resources at no capital cost to customers, who then buy the energy that’s generated through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).  Moreover, by providing technologies that trim energy usage when it makes most sense for the customer, not just the power pool, we drive additional savings by lowering the price customers pay for retail energy.

It may sound simple, but Tangent’s blended supply and demand approach to energy efficiency savings requires a unique combination of project financing, deep energy industry expertise and a heritage of success with C&I customers.

Only Tangent combines all of these qualities in a culture built on safety, reliability and economic success.
